Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China highlighted education, science and technology, and talent as a dedicated chapter. For the first time, it integrated and coordinated invigorating China through science and education, the workforce development strategy, and the innovation-driven development strategy, which are the three major strategies of China. This move has attracted widespread attention from all sectors. The report emphasizes that education, science and technology, and talent are the fundamental and strategic pillars for building a modern socialist country comprehensively. We must regard science and technology as our primary productive force, talent as our primary resource, and innovation as our primary driver of growthfully, and implement the strategy for invigorating China through science and education, the workforce development strategy, and the innovation-driven development strategy, and open up new areas and new arenas in development and steadily foster new growth drivers and new strengths.
"Focus Interview", a program, aired on November 25, 2022, featured a special interview on Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence (referred to as "BIGAI"). The interview highlighted examples of implementing the integrated strategy of science and technology, talent, and education, as proposed in the 20th National Congress. Prof. Songchun Zhu, Dean of the School of Intelligence Science and Technology and Director of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence at Peking University, along with several researchers and students from BIGAI, participated in the interview. They provided insights from different perspectives on the current research and development trends in the field of artificial intelligence, the practice of constructing research platforms, and talent cultivation models. In response to the strategic demands of the country in the field of general artificial intelligence, Prof. Songchun Zhu is leading the efforts to build an internationally leading talent cultivation system in the field of general artificial intelligence. He has collaborated with multiple research institutions both inside and outside the university to form a strong research team. Their focus is on undertaking original, pioneering, and organized technological breakthroughs from 0 to 1 in the field of general artificial intelligence. These efforts aim to strengthen the construction of national strategic scientific and technological talents and achieve a high level of technological self-reliance and self-improvement.
